Therapy with Thomas
I believe psychologists are your teammates who can assist you in overcoming challenges by providing insight and options based on what we know from scientific research.
My approach to therapy is a collaborative one where we work together as a team to develop a theory of what is going on and then test that theory through intervention. I also believe that good outcomes in psychology come from a thorough assessment and understanding of the issue you are seeking to resolve. While this can mean things take a little longer to get started, I believe that in the long run this saves time, money and disappointment.
Where children are concerned I prefer a family based approach. Children do not operate or function without the help of their family, school and community. The research also generally suggests that interventions with family involvement have the best outcomes. As a result, when I work with children I also work with parents and teachers.
