Therapy with Doug
My main therapeutic orientation, when working with adults, draws heavily on schema therapy, which focuses on a strong clinician-client relationship to uncover core emotional needs. This allows clients to both understand and address patterns of behaviour that are keeping them stuck. This style of therapy fosters a strong sense of self-compassion while simultaneously guiding clients to identify maladaptive coping mechanisms and explore healthier ways of responding.
When working with children and adolescents I use a range of evidence based interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing whilst working collaboratively with families and wider support networks to gain insight and address the presenting issues.
I consider it a great responsibility and privilege to get to do the work I do, and I am passionate about helping clients to achieve their goals. I pride myself on committing great energy and enthusiasm toward building relationships with my clients.
