A Brief History of the READ Clinic
Over 40 years ago two brothers had a dream. Child Psychologist Dr. John Irvine and Clinical Neuropsychologist Warwick Irvine envisaged a clinic that would offer professional psychological services in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
On the platform of their three guiding principles: Commitment to the community, working honourably and pursuing clinical excellence, they created The READ Clinic in a small premises in Hill Street, Gosford. It was to become an industry leader and one of the largest private psychology clinics in Australia, eventually moving to our current Erina clinic in 2014, and expanding to our West Gosford clinic ten years later, in 2024.
When John and Warwick decided to change their work/life balance, experienced and dedicated psychologists – Andrew Sozomenou, Heather Irvine-Rundle and Nathan Beehag – assumed the positions of co-owners and directors of The READ Clinic.
Today with over 40 psychologists and therapists, The READ Clinic remains the oldest and largest private psychology clinic on the Central Coast of NSW, but we maintain our welcoming and friendly approach.
The practitioners who choose to base their practices at The READ Clinic provide a diverse range of evidence-based interventions, programs and therapies. All services are provided in the same original spirit and commitment that Dr. John Irvine and Warwick Irvine began. It remains our vision (to all people regardless of age, stage of psychological needs) that the READ Clinic provides a home for practitioners providing the best level of therapeutic intervention.
Professional Development
The READ Clinic is also committed to improving the level of professional development available on the Central Coast. Practitioners who work at the READ Clinic are able to access free monthly professional development sessions with senior psychologists speaking about their key areas of interest. We are proud that many of the psychologists who choose to work from the READ Clinic have participated in research, written books and lecture at Central Coast universities. If you are a Registered or Clinical Psychologist, a Clinical Registrar, or a Provisional Psychologist looking for an internship or MCP/MPP placement, and you are committed to providing high quality psychology services on the Central Coast, please reach out.
The READ Clinic has also sponsored professional development events, and hosted conferences on child behaviour and trauma to bring quality education closer to home for Central Coast psychologists and allied health professionals.
