Do I need a referral to come to The R.E.A.D. Clinic
No - you dont need a referral to book an appointment. You can just call and book completely privately. There are certain types of referrals that people do come in under and these are explained below.
What type of referrals are available?
There are many different types of referrals that clients bring to us. These can come from your school, your GP or your specialist. There are some referrals that enable you to claim some of your appointment cost back.
Better Access to Mental Health (BAMH)
Better Access for Mental Health enables patients to access psychological services and gain a rebate from Medicare. A patient must be referred by a GP, a psychiatrist or a paediatrician. This involves the assessment of a patient and preparation of a GP Mental Health Care Plan.
Better Outcomes for Mental Health (BOMH)
Better Outcomes for Mental Health- (BOMH) is managed by the local Division of General Practice. GPs undergo training to be registered for this scheme. Psychologists must also apply to become involved with this scheme and patients are referred to participating psychologists by GPs registered with the Division. Speak to your GP about whether you are eligible to access a BOMH Plan.
Can I claim on my private health
Each private health fund varies, please call your fund to enquire if they cover psychological counselling.
How soon can I get in?
The R.E.A.D. Clinic has over 20 consulting psychologists and we are open 6 days a week. This enables us to offer appointments quite quickly to new and existing clients. Please call us to discuss your needs.
Can I claim on both my Mental Health Care Plan and Private Health?

How much does it cost?
